The Name Jesus Christ is heard frequently in our society. Unfortunately, His Name is used commonly as an expression of disgust, anger, irritation, or other emotional distress. Conversely, using The Name Jesus Christ in association with His Gospel or our faith in Him is met with scorn and mocking. More recently, glorfying His Name brings the threat of a lawsuit for violating so-called separation of church and state standards, which, ironically, do not exist in the form claimed by their proponents.
The Name Jesus Christ can divide a room of people faster than any other name. For example, imagine yourself at a “holiday gathering”, as opposed to a Christmas party. What would happen if you announced, “Who would like to discuss Jesus Christ?” My guess is the room would polarize and separate into two distinctly different groups before you could blink an eye.
The Name Jesus Christ is a name of praise, not disgust. The Name Jesus Christ was given to our Savior by God the Father and was meant to glorify His darling Son. It is a personal name – Jehovah Saves – for both God and us, and in it we are reminded of God’s love.
Scripture declares we are to praise His Name and we praise Him by praising His glorious Name. Below are scripture verses from Psalms that help us understand and appreciate why His Name is a Name to be praised.

And what is that Name? It is Jesus!
It is normal to praise the Name of Jesus. The Name Jesus stirs praise among the redeemed, but it stirs anger, hatred, and rage among the rebellious and reprobate. The unredeemed cannot tolerate the Name of Jesus. We who are saved are the aroma of Christ to God; to those who are perishing, we are the smell of death (2 Corinthians 2:15-16).
When the religious hierarchy of the Pharisees and Sadducees heard the Apostles preaching and they saw the masses being saved, they were outraged. They arrested Peter and John and beat them. Afterwards, they called them and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in The Name of Jesus! (Acts 4:18)
When the redeemed hear His Name, they praise Him. The Name of Jesus is a name of praise! “And you shall give Him the Name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21).
The old song, There’s Something about That Name, states it well:
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
There’s just something about that Name.
Master, Savior, Jesus,
Like the fragrance after the rain.
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,
Let all Heaven and Earth proclaim,
Kings and kingdoms will all pass away,
But there’s something about that Name!
The Name of Jesus Christ is a Name of praise. How will you praise Him today?
