Seat of Mockers – Part 1 of 2

In Daily Devotionals by I'm Normal. I AMLeave a Comment

What topic did God choose to address first in the revered book of Psalms? Psalm 1 instructs us concerning good and evil, elucidating the different character and condition of Godly people vs. wicked people. God lauds those who serve Him and rebukes those who rebel; thus, every man can see his own face. What reflection do you see in God’s mirror? Moreover, Psalm 1 points out a man’s status as being either a child of God or a child of the evil one. Psalm 1:1 states, “Blessed is the man who does not…sit in the seat of mockers. Where do you see yourself sitting?

For much of my life, I sat in the seat of mockers. Looking back at my college years, I now recognize my seat was solidly in the mockers camp. As I pursued my degree in geology, my course work included paleontology classes. Paleontology studies prehistoric life, which I now know to be an oxymoron. History started when time began in Genesis 1:1. Everything else is eternity past.

Many branches of science emphasize evolution, particularly paleontology, which examines fossils, dinosaurs, plants, sea creatures, and other life forms. Now I understand the lies in science’s representation and of the mockers who taught me.

The fossil record claims to demonstrate the evolution of primitive creatures into sophisticated creatures by means of natural selection, which, purportedly, slowly produced intermediary versions of life forms. In fact, the fossil record shows something quite different. Nature’s “experiments”, i.e. the myriad intermediate versions one would expect in a random trial and error process proposed by evolutionists, are not found. Instead, existing life forms are replaced by quantum leaps into more sophisticated versions or new species without transition.

The mockers also claimed the fossilized remains are millions, even hundreds of millions of years old. This fact violates God’s Word, the Bible, which, when studied, dates the Earth at less than 10,000 years. How did God make things appear this old? I don’t know. However, we know He can impart apparent age because Adam was created as a man, not a baby, and a man appears to be older than a baby. With God, all things are possible, so I choose to have faith. Those without faith will search endlessly for data God has chosen to suppress from our view. Pray for them.

Scripture describes others who lacked data and understanding, but chose to have faith in God’s Word. Abraham did not understand how God could give Sarah and him a child when he was “..as good as dead..” (Hebrews 11:12), but Abraham had faith and Isaac was born of His promise. Likewise, we must have faith even if we do not understand how God performs His miracles. God’s miracles are a mystery, not a puzzle to solve. He hasn’t given us all the answers; therefore, we can only choose faith or unbelief.

The definition of paleontology also speaks of lies and mockers. The word prehistoric means before history. God began our history in Genesis when He created all creatures in six days. Thus, the term prehistoric has no meaning to the Christian. Moreover, according to God’s Word, death did not come into the world until Adam sinned. If the dinosaurs and other life existed before Adam and Eve, how could they die when death did not exist? The mockers have no answer. They do have faith, misguided faith – in evolution.

God provides evidence of a lack of death before the Fall. In Genesis 1:30, “And to all the beasts of the Earth, and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground – everything that has the breath of life in it – I give every green plant for food. This verse indicates that all the beasts, including lions, tigers, wolves and other predators, ate green plants. Grass. Death had not entered the world, so lions did not kill prey for food, they ate plants. This boggles the imagination, but God tells us it was so in the beginning. No one ever mentioned this fact during my college experience.

My professors were intelligent, educated, and, I suspect, well-intentioned people, but they suffered from the wisdom of the world and taught me foolishness (Isaiah 29:14, 1 Corinthians 1:20, 25, 27). We must pray for them. The “facts” they presented provide a working scientific model of the world, but this model conflicts directly with Scripture. Only one model can be the Truth. I plan to believe in Scripture.

It is not normal to sit in the seat of mockers. If the words teachers speak do not reflect the Truth of Scripture, you should change your seat. Such people are agents of the evil one even if they don’t realize it. Inform them with love regarding the errors of their ways (1 Peter 3:15), then politely change your seat. This simple act will define you as a child of God. Be normal and abandon the seat of mockers. God will bless you for it.
