The Killing Place

Have you visited a place where humans are murdered? Have you seen where babies are sacrificed for a price? If you have, you’ve experience the uneasy feeling of avoidable death. My wife and I now visit an abortion clinic in Augusta, Georgia at least once a month. Here we assist others in trying to rescue innocent lives, attempting to convince pregnant women not to abort (i.e., kill) their unborn children.

The Killing Place looks like a typical building in an ordinary office park – new, well-kept, and with a sanitized name that cloaks the violence occurring within. Nevertheless, five days a week, a doctor terminates the life of living fetuses. Based on the number of cars that come and go, we estimate approximately twenty abortions occur on the days we attend.

The tally grows daily. Since the passage of Roe v. Wade in 1973, 60 million abortion deaths have occurred in the U.S. alone. Currently, that translates to more than one million babies killed each year in America. Each results from the consent of a potential mother to sacrifice the life of her child.

Do not let others mislead you – God is against abortion. Abortion is murder, pure and simple, and it violates God’s sixth Commandment – Thou shall not murder – in every aspect. The excuse heard today is a woman has the right to control her body. However, the body (fetus) inside a woman’s body is not her body. It is the unique life God has created. Her duty as a mother is to protect her child.

God values the life of both the born and unborn, and He would never condone someone killing His child. Take to heart what He tells us in Scripture through the prophet Jeremiah, “They built high places…to sacrifice their sons and daughters to Molech, though I never commanded, nor did it enter my mind, that they would do such a detestable thing.” (Jeremiah 32:35; emphasis added).

God declares child sacrifice was literally unthinkable to His Holy mind. His anger burned so fiercely He declared this a main cause for Israel’s captivity in Babylon (v.36). Blood-guilt was upon the nation of Judah and God always punishes sin. Now consider this – it is highly likely that far fewer children were sacrificed by the Biblical nation of Israel than have been sacrificed in America since Roe v. Wade. This begs the question – what judgment will He bring upon us for doing the unthinkable? Only He knows, but Scripture tells us it is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31).

Long before Jesus Christ came to Earth, the Israelites became foolish and built Killing Places to sacrifice their young. Even Solomon, the world’s wisest man, fell into Satan’s trap and became involved in child sacrifice (1 Kings 11:4-11). Solomon, who used his legendary, God-given wisdom to suggest the epic and counter-intuitive solution to saving the baby by cutting it in half (1 Kings 3:16-28), later went on to sacrifice his own children. God’s anger burned.

The irony between the thinking and culture in Solomon’s day and 21^st century thinking is palpable. Barrenness in Biblical times was one of the worst curses a woman could experience. A man could divorce his wife if she were barren. Even if a husband were loving and charitable to his barren wife, life was not easy. Hannah, mother of Samuel, suffered greatly until God gifted her with a child (1 Samuel 1:1-20). Similarly, the Samaritan woman Jesus met at the well at noon may have been ostracized for barrenness as much as for having been a floozy (John 4:1-18). Her five husbands may have divorced her for her failure to produce a child. Her mid-day trips to the well may indicate in part her pain in seeing the children of women her age, knowing full well she could not have children of her own.

Sadly, today couples often view pregnancy as a curse instead of a gift from God. They view the child as an impediment to their lifestyle and happiness, not as a gift. Thus, they seek to make the “problem” go away in order to avoid disruption in their lives. The real disruption occurs to the unborn child, who dies. Ironically, those who are pro-abortion often present themselves as victims if they are denied the opportunity to kill their baby. Make no mistake – the baby is the victim!

Psalm 127:3 declares, “Children are a gift from the LORD.”, and, “Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.” (Psalm 127:5). Whereas our physical life begins at conception, our eternal life began in God’s mind before the creation of the Universe (Jeremiah 1:5). Physical life begins at conception, and God knits us together in our mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13). He detests it when we destroy life He created and gave to us as a gift.

The Good News is God will forgive anyone who confesses their sin and repents, no matter how great the sin (John 3:16). This promise includes the sin of murder and/or abortion. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). This sure promise should bring great comfort to all sinners. God loves us so much He provided a Way to absolve us from even unthinkable sins.

The Killing Places in Augusta and across the nation (and the world) are little different from those in ancient Israel. The Israelites justified their actions under a false religion; today we use the euphemism of a woman’s choice. Believing in choice is actually a form of religion, but not a Godly religion. God states His case plainly in Scripture. Moreover, abortions are not medical procedures, they are murders. Whereas access to abortion may currently be the law of the land, it has never been the Law of God.

Legalized murder is not normal and brings serious consequences. History reveals killing Jews in Germany and killing Germans in Yugoslavia during World War II was also the law of those lands. Six million Jews died and we rightfully called it a Holocaust. Sixty million American children, ten times the number of Holocaust deaths, have died on our own soil since Roe v. Wade and we call it choice. Pray for this American Holocaust to end soon. Pray also for a worldwide end to abortion (Note: China alone aborts more than 25 million babies each year).

When you leave this world and God asks you to explain why you did nothing to try to stop the unthinkable in His mind, what will be your response? What would you expect His response to be to your inaction? He wants us to stand in the gap and defend the innocent and helpless (Ezekiel 22:30). What will you do today to repent of your silence and inaction? Remember – tomorrow more babies die.

God has forgiven me of my silence and inaction. God has also forgiven every woman who has asked forgiveness for having an abortion. If you haven’t asked God for forgiveness, I recommend you do it today; He will forgive you! Then pray for His guidance to direct you in the way He would have you work to help stop the killing. He is eager to welcome you to His team.
