The Void

When God created Adam in the Garden of Eden, He created him in perfection and with a spiritual connection to God. Then Adam sinned. At that instant, the spiritual connection between man and God was broken. Adam’s fall from grace brought a gulf of separation between man and His Creator that was permanent, and destructive.

Now that man has become a sinner, each person is born into sin – the “body of death” as the Apostle Paul calls it (Romans 7:24). The sin and the separation from God create a void in our lives we desperately seek to fill. Many people try to fill that void by getting involved with worldly pursuits – work, entertainment, alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, false religions, and more. Unfortunately, these pursuits never fill the void left inside us because they do not connect us back to our Creator. We seek happiness; He seeks to give us joy, eternal life, and peace.

Adam’s single sin created an infinite distance between God and man. Because of God’s infinite righteousness, He sees our anger becomes as murder and our lust as adultery. This means an infinite distance exists between us and Heaven, an infinite chasm that prohibits us from entering the eternal Kingdom of God. Only an infinite answer can solve the problem.

The only way we can fill the void inside us and bridge the infinite chasm is to reconnect with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. Nothing else found here on Earth will be able to substitute for a relationship with Him. The Good News today is that God still loves us despite our sin and offers us a way to reconnect with Him. He loves us so much He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that if we believe in Him we can be reconnected in our spiritual relationship with Our Heavenly Father.

Jesus is the Way, a path to fill the void that exists in each of our lives. He has the power do this because He is God. Jesus is the Way to reconnect with God because Jesus died in order to overcome sin and to be able to act as our mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). He is the Way, the only Way (John 14:6), and will bring you peace from the search for a way to fill the discomforting void inside you.

The path to the Way is difficult for many people because it involves admission of sin, repentance, and obedience to God’s Way, not ours. We do not like to admit we are sinners, or that we need a Savior. We are prone to self-direction, not obedience to Him. Even when we try, we often fail (Romans 7:14-25) because the evil one is always close at hand and our flesh is weak.

By knowing Jesus, we can know joy. We may face fierce trials, difficult situations, and fractured lives here on Earth, but we know Jesus offers us the joy of being reconnected back to God (John 15:4-8). Jesus offers us a Way to be with the Father for all eternity. Jesus offers us peace and an abundant life, if we will only partake of a personal relationship with Him.

It is normal to want joy, peace, and abundant life. So many people in this lost and hurting world seek to find these things in Earthly pursuits. Jesus tells us we can only find them through Him. He is the only Way to find peace. He is the only way to reconnect to God the Father (John 14:6). He is the only person who can fill the void inside you, a void that will be with you until you die and are united with the Father in Heaven. Place your focus squarely on Jesus. It is normal to want to fill the void. He is the only Way to do it.
